Student Success Story: Ben's Path to MIT

Ben entered our program as a brilliant STEM student but a reluctant writer. Based on his sixth grade work, teachers didn’t expect him to stand out in English class. Over the years, we took up the challenge by focusing on the skill that separates outstanding STEM applicants from average ones: clear writing with interesting ideas. Ben learned how to:

• Analyze challenging literary texts
• Find his unique voice
• Write essays that reflected deep thinking

By senior year, he was producing some of the strongest essays in his class.
In fact, during his application review, MIT contacted his English teacher directly. That teacher, having seen Ben’s strengths as a writer, was in a position to give a very strong recommendation.

Two weeks after that conversation, Ben received his acceptance letter to MIT.

Ella was an exceptional student. She had top grades, a high SAT score, and leadership as principal musician in both her school orchestra and a youth symphony.
